Young Poets

Every year, young writers in Suffolk, UK, have the opportunity to enter the Suffolk Young Poets Competition which is run by the imaginative and generous Poetry People, who are based in Halesworth, Suffolk. It is wonderful to know how many young writers there are in the county, and to read their fresh and thoughtful work. We always love hearing the winners of the competition reading their poems at the annual celebration of their work.

Of course, this year, it was not possible for there to be a live event and that has led to the making of a video which, we think, will turn out to be a great resource for young writers. You can hear the ten winners reading their poems. Each poem has been beautifully illustrated on a poster and each one is an inspiration for others to write. There are also guest readings by Suffolk poets, Karl Knights and Jeni Smith.

Today is the premiere of the Suffolk Young Poets 2020 celebration.

You can watch it with us today Thursday 2 July (6.00 to 6.30pm) on Poetry People’s Facebook page

Do join us at 6. Or have a look at the Poetry People’s page where you will find a link to the video.
