No, not an on-line meeting with a long agenda, but a great, wordless picture book by Istvan Banyai. The idea is simple and intriguing. I mention it because it builds on some of the ideas that may have arisen from the last post based on ‘Inside the Egg’. The book presents us with a series of pictures. Each time, the camera/ viewer zooms out to see more of the context, thus constantly changing perspectives and our own interpretations and expectations of the sequence.

The first page shows a bold red block of colour with a zigzag top. On the next page we see that it is the comb of a cockerel. As the viewpoint changes we see that this is part of a toy farmyard which is part of a model town.

Then we notice three large fingers in the top right corner.

The picture is on the front of a magazine held by a boy….

…and so the sequence continues.

Our writing club experimented this week with the ‘Inside the Egg’ idea and writers came up with some great ideas: inside the book, inside a pond, inside a wallet in a sequence that ended with greed and anger, inside the stable. It was intriguing to think about this infinite Russian doll point of view and find where it might lead to.
