Today is Mass Observation diary day in the UK. We are invited to write a diary for the day, looking back also over the last year, if we wish, and forward to the future. The collection of diary entries will reflect everyday life at this time as part of a national archive which began in the 1930s.The project welcomes diary entries from schools.

You may think that what you do today is very ordinary -and that is the whole point. In fifty years’ time, it will be both familiar and extraordinary. So getting up, drinking coffee, traveling to school (how did you get there?), something about the weather, what you talked about with friends, what you had for lunch and what you learned and played, all those things will be interesting. You may want to look back on the year, or how you feel now after the past year. You may want to look forward: what are you hoping for the summer? For next year? for your longer term future.
