Dilly Dilly Piccalilli

Here is a little rhyme we have often used for fun. It comes from a favourite collection of short rhymes written by Clyde Watson and illustrated by her sister, Wendy: Father Fox’s Pennyrhymes.  Dilly Dilly Piccalilli  has a clear pattern and invites a little bit of nonsense. Simply share the rhyme and then see if you can make rhymes like this for people you know. Keep  the first two lines and make up your own third and fourth lines.

Dilly Dilly Piccalilli
Tell me something very silly:
There was a chap whose name was Bert
He ate the buttons off his shirt.
Clyde Watson

There was a girl whose name was Amelia …..  who shouted at apples, “I’m going to peel yer!”  See what I mean?  There was a boy whose name was Toby …. Hmmmm …. Toby Crowe, let’s try that. There was a boy whose name was Crowe – and now there are lots of rhymes. But his surname isn’t Crowe, it’s Atkinson. You might be able to find a rhyme, but you could just use another description – There was a boy who was quite tall, whose eyes were brown, who lived in Norwich (which, of course, should rhyme with porridge). And off you go.
